Hungarian Recipe Of The Week: Detty’s Curd Cheese Biscuits

Hungarian Recipe Of The Week: Detty’s Curd Cheese Biscuits
"Even the young ones will enjoy helping with these easy to make, savory snacks. A smashing success the next time you have friends over for tea!

Ingredients for about 60 pieces:
500 g curd cheese
500 g butter or margarine
500 g flour
20 g salt
2 tablespoon ground cumin
black pepper
10 g baking powder

Topping:
1 egg
cheese, poppy-seeds, sesame seeds, etc.

Preparation time: 30 minutes + baking time

Difficulty: ☺

Preparation:

Heat oven to 200 °C. Grease 2 cookie sheets.

In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt and cumin. In a large bowl, combine the curd cheese and butter, then fold in flour mixture gradually, to get a smooth, thick dough. Moisten hands and form balls from batter, and place on the cookie sheets. Beat the egg and brush over biscuits, sprinkle with grated cheese, sesame seeds, poppy seeds or anything you like. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve warm or cold, with tea or hot chocolate.

Hint:

* You can add black pepper to the flour mixture.
* Do not melt the butter when you mix it with the curd cheese!
* Do not worry if the raw batter is a bit salty; biscuits will be just fine when they are done.
* Good activity for kids – they love to form the biscuit balls – and helping will make it even tastier."
