Printers protest VAT rise

The head of the Hungarian Publishers and Book Distributors Association (MKKE), Péter László Zentai, called the Finance Ministry's interpretation of the printer's role, and the resulting 20% rise in VAT, wrong.

The FinMin has argued that printers do not provide a finished product; rather they provide a service, which means they should invoice VAT at 25%, not 5%. Zentai said the move will destroy the industry's competitiveness. (Econews; Nb 1)
