Hungary's leading telecom group Matáv, owned by Germany's Deutsche Telekom, is to be renamed Magyar Telekom. One day after the announcement the company published details of the rebranding on Friday.
In the following you find excerpts from a statement Matáv published ahead of a 22 February extraordinary general meeting, where they will address details of the rebranding.
The Matáv Group is seeking new paths for development and progress. Our belief is that deepening our partnership relations with Deutsche Telekom can contribute to a great extent to the achievement of our goals.
Rebranding content
Rebranding means on the one hand a change of name at Matáv Rt. and its LoBs and subsidiaries carrying the Matáv name, on the other hand adopting the T-brand.
At the same time a complete change of corporate identity will be carried out at the companies concerned.
The rebranding and the related transformation will not result in changes in the ownership or governance structure of any of the companies, nor in their management. Deutsche Telekom will continue to hold 59.21% ownership share in the future Hungarian Telekom.
Introduction of the new brand structure will not bring about organizational changes and will not mean an increase in DT's influence either in legal, or in operative management terms.
Reasons for rebranding
1. Competition on the Hungarian telecommunications market is getting stronger so the Group is facing great challenges.
2. DT is consistently making efforts to become the leading integrated telecommunications group of the world; as part of these efforts they are developing the T-brand into a real global brand to achieve competitive advantages over the other large telecommunications companies.
Rebranding details
Matáv Group's brand is to mirror Deutsche Telekom's brand structure, so Matáv's customers will meet, in addition to the current T-Mobile, the new brands - T-Com, T-Systems and T-Online.
The new brands are to be introduced in 2005.
Deutsche Telekom will finance the direct costs of rebranding so these will not burden Matáv's budget.
