The Ministry of Public Administration and Justice acknowledged the decision of the Irish central authority with regret, in particular, in the light of the fact that an amendment that entered into force in 2009 removed the stipulation from the Irish law referred to on the basis of which a wanted person can only be handed over to the country of investigation in the case of his/her escape.

With regard to the gravity of the case and the fact that the man sentenced to imprisonment for 3 years by the Hungarian authority caused an accident resulting in the deaths of a two-year-old and a five-year-old child in Hungary and left the country without facing the consequences, Minister of Public Administration and Justice Tibor Navracsics requested the Irish Minister of Justice by letter on 23 March 2011 and several times thereafter informally at meetings in person to urge the satisfactory settlement of the case within the shortest possible time.
