Now talking of the Opera House, here for your interest is more about that cultural icon from Török András !
''Hungarian State Opera House - Andrássy út 22. This is one of the most important buildings in the history of Hungarian architecture (Miklós Ybl, 1884). Work on the building lasted nine years; the architect, who also directed the construction work, is said to have checked every cartload of bricks.
This huge building, perhaps because of its nature, does not look that large at all, except perhaps when viewed from Gellért-hegy. The auditorium seats 1,289 people. It was lovingly restored in the 1980's.
Both inside and out the building is decorated with hundreds of statues and paintings. In the niche to the right of the carriage entrance is a statue of Ferenc Liszt, to the left one of Ferenc Erkel, the father of Hungarian opera.'' 'Budapest: A Critical Guide' !
