Light is the best remedy against darkness, as even a tiny bit of it can “disperse” the greatest darkness, Slomó Köves, the chief rabbi of the Unified Hungarian Jewish Congregation (EMIH), said on Wednesday, the first day of the Jewish holiday Hanukkah.
In his message, Attila Mesterházy, the chairman of the Socialist Party, said that “Hanukkah carries the message of cohesion, survival and renewal.
It carries the message of hope that Jewish people can live a happy life in peace and security.”
The celebration of Hanukkah - the Festival of Light - goes back to the Jewish retaking of the Temple of Jerusalem from the Greeks in 165 BC.
