Budapest Airport To Build A 3200 Square Meters Container City

Budapest Airport To Build A 3200 Square Meters Container City
"On Thursday evening the first blue-silver colored containers arrived to Budapest Airport (BA) and with this the construction of a Container City has started. In the coming weeks, 201 additional containers will arrive and a 3200 square meters temporary airport handling unit will be created at the Budapest Airport.

The Container City is necessary because of the construction of a new terminal building named BUD Skycourt that will link the Terminals 2A and 2B. Due to the construction of the passengers hall, a number of companies will need new temporary working space. Among others the ground handling companies of the airport will move here.
This project is the first step of BA’s modernization program called BUD Future. Until 2011 BA will spend 261 million euros on the development of the airport.

The two-storey and – looking from above – H-shaped Container City will provide office space, meeting rooms and lockers for about 300-350 employees. The facility will dispose of a heating- and air conditioning system as well as state-of-the-art technological equipment that fulfils every need.

The special structure will be needed for approximately three or four years until the total renewal of T2. Next to the container city a 7300 square meters parking lot and staging area will be created. The construction works will go on 24/7, even during the Winter Festivities. BA expects that the ribbon cutting ceremony to happen in the first quarter of 2008.

Jost Lammers, CEO of BA said: “The realization of the BUD Future expansion and modernization program has finally begun. We will carry out developments on a scale that has never been seen before and the beginning of the construction of the Container City is the first phase of it. As a result by 2011 Budapest Airport is to become the most successful airport in Central and Eastern Europe”.
