Budapest Film Buys Rights For Films On Venice Programme

Budapest Film Buys Rights For Films On Venice Programme
"Budapest Film has purchased the distribution rights for six films on the programme of the 64th Venice Film Festival. The latest films by Peter Greenaway, Ang Lee, Todd Haynes and Brian De Palma are among them.

Ang Lee's film Lust, Caution fetched the main prize in Venice. It is a romantic drama set in Shanghai during World War II. The spy Wang Yiazhi, played by newcomer Tang Wei, is assigned to become intimately acquainted with local boss Mr Yee, played by the iconic Tony Leung.

George Clooney plays the title role in Michael Clayton, the first feature film directed by Tony Gilroy, who wrote the screenplays for the Bourne trilogy. The divorced, burnt-out ex-lawyer Michael Clayton works for the largest law firm in New York. When the firm's rising young start sabotages a case, Clayton finds himself facing the biggest challenge of his career. Supporting roles in this exciting thriller are played by Tilda Swinton, Sydney Pollack and Tom Wilkinson.

I'm Not There is an extraordinary film directed by Todd Haynes about the life of the singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. Seven actors play Dylan at various stages in his life in the film. They include Richard Gere, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale and, rather surprisingly, Cate Blanchett. The film is the first biography of Dylan to be acknowledged by the artist himself.

Brian De Palma's Redacted examines the lives of soldiers in combat in Iraq. It also uncovers the manipulative way the media presents the US presence there.

Peter Greenaway's new film Nighwatching, which premiered in Venice, shows Rembrandt's professional and extra-professional life with the rich imagery that has become the director's trademark.

The Nanny Diaries, a film by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, was shown outside of the competition in Venice. It features Scarlett Johansson as a schoolgirl who goes to work as a nanny for a rich New York family."
