"The Budapest Transport Company (BKV) plans to raise fares by 10-17% next year, InfoRádió has reported. The BKV has put together three “packages" for the hike, according to which it would raise ticket prices by 10%, 13% or 17% in 2008.The radio said the company is leaning towards a 13% hike, so if the general meeting of the Budapest Municipality nods on the notion on 20 December, a single ticket will cost HUF 270, up from the current HUF 230, and the price of a 30-day pass will go up to HUF 8,250 from HUF 7,350.
The goverment targets 4.8% annual average inflation for 2008 and the central bank (NBH) forecasts 5.0% CPI for next year (it raised it from 4.5% in its latest quarterly Inflation Report in November.)
