Book Now: 'Cesaria Evora', Sportaréna, 8 April

Book Now: 'Cesaria Evora', Sportaréna, 8 April
"Evora was born in 1941 and until 1987 was known as a singer in the harbour bars. Then an émigré contemporary persuaded her to tour Portugal and organised a recording session.

There, she met the producer José da Silva and before long, the “bare foot diva” became one of the most sought after artists of the world music scene.

The first Cesaria album (La Diva aux Pieds Nus) was released in 1988 on the Silva Lusafrica label. The fourth, Miss Perfumado, sold over 200,000 copies and made the ‘bare-footed diva’ one of the most celebrated and sought-after stars of world music.

In recent years Evora’s undiminished international standing has seen her venture beyond the Cape Verde coffee-house songs: the Café Atlantico and Sao Vicente di Longe albums were made in collaboration with Cuban musicians and Brazilian singers, while in 2003 her recordings were taken up by the remix wave (Club Sodade). In 2004 a concert DVD (Live D’Amor) was released."
