'Company of Wolves', Palace of Arts, 9 April |
"This is a setting of the well known story of Little Red Riding Hood in an exceptional new and daring interpretation. The performers are dancers, singers, jugglers, acrobats, clowns and musicians. The forest is buried in us all. It is an analogy of living nature. It embodies everything which is dark, foreboding, secret or secretive, hidden, unknown and unconscious. It is frequently frightening but despite this scarily attractive. Fear of sexuality, men, true life – by the same token, a single minded obsession for these things creates tension in the vulnerable girl which she must understand and release.
Little Red Riding Hood must pass through the forest. The wolf embodies the ancient, uncivilised, animal characteristics of man, without morals. If it is hungry, the wolf eats; if it is aroused, it mates. The hunter is modest and conscious, his behaviour is human. He is a rescuer, heroic and a legalised murderer. He is the judging angel of the animal hidden in man. In his eyes, all wolfs are equally guilty.
