"Budapest city council on Thursday approved a decree whereby, in the event of a smog alert, vehicles with license plates with even numbers at the end may only drive in Budapest on even-numbered dates and those ending with odd numbers on the other days. The decree will take effect from next Monday. Accordingly a smog alert will have to be introduced if the concentration of descending dust exceeds the present ceiling levels for two consecutive days.
Older cars that heavily pollute the environment will be banned from areas inside the Hungária ring road from October to March, regardless of the air quality."
