"Cycling enthusiasts from all over Europe (EU member states, Western Balkan countries and Turkey) are making their final preparations before they take part in the first European bike tour along the River Danube.A team of staff from the British Embassies in Budapest, Zagreb and Belgrade will be joining in and riding a relay from Budapest in Hungary, through Osijek and Vukovar in Croatia and on to Novi Sad and Belgrade in Serbia. The British Embassies' team will be posting news, views, photos and videos on its newly set up blog site throughout the tour from its started in Budapest on Tuesday 23 June to the grand finale at a major event in Belgrade on the evening of Saturday 27 June.
On 23 June at 8:30am, nearly 200 bikers representing 23 countries began the Tour starting in Parliament Square in Budapest. Before setting off on a five day trip through Hungary, Croatia and Serbia, they were welcomed by Mr Gabor Gyorgy, head of the Representation of the European Commission in Hungary and British Ambassador to Budapest, Greg Dorey. Katailin Szili, the President of Parliament, marked the beginning of this unique event.
