Dummy Grenades At Fidesz Buildings

Dummy Grenades At Fidesz Buildings
"Practise grenades were found Friday at the Fidesz headquarters on Lendvay utca in Budapest’s Sixth District and outside the entrance to the Fidesz Fifth District building on Cukor utca.

Budapest Police spokeswoman Éva Tafferner subsequently said a bomb disposal squad had established that neither object contained explosives. Fidesz’s Fifth District office manager Gábor Dobos said the party had on Thursday night received a threatening letter in which the sender promised to “bring death next time.” The grenade placed in the fence outside the Lendvay utca building was from the Soviet-era.

Government spokesman Dávid Daróczi assured Fidesz politicians of Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány’s solidarity regarding the occurrence. Gyurcsány was quoted as saying that firm action must be taken within legal frameworks against all threats that affect figures of democratic public life, regardless of their party affiliation. Socialist Party spokesman István Nyakó said his party rejects all forms of violence and intimidation.

The Fidesz security directorate nevertheless took all the necessary measures to step up security around Orbán."
