"Fidesz considers the Ft 5 billion costs for the planned referendum as too high and particularly objects to the price of the vote-counting system, Magyar Hírlap learnt.Fidesz deputy chairman Mihály Varga said “if the government cancels its mistaken decisions on visiting, health care and tuition fees, as well as the privatisation of hospitals, pharmacies and land purchases, then the referendum can be cancelled.”
The right-leaning daily commented that Fidesz entertained doubts on public support for the referendum questions on allowing only pharmacies to sell drugs and giving land purchase pre-emption rights to family farmers, but now the party believes that these groups are “opinion formers” in the countryside, and can sway tens of thousands of people, Magyar Hírlap added."
