"The Swiss harpist Andreas Vollenweider will perform at Budapest's Petőfi Csarnok on September 26 as part of his Caverna Magica Continuum tour.ollenweider has been a big name on the international music scene for more than 25 years and his unique sound has enchanted millions.
Born in Zurich in 1953, the son of Hans Vollenweider, one of Europe's leading organists, the young Andreas grew up in a creatively diverse and inspiring environment. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, he searched for "his" instrument, before discovering the harp in 1975. Tailoring the instrument to his own needs, he created the electro-acoustic harp.
Vollenweider composed for film, theater and TV productions before releasing his debut album in 1979. Two years later, the ensemble Andreas Vollenweider + Friends played the Montreux Jazz Festival.
In 1987, Vollenweider's 1984 album Down To The Moon received a Grammy Award. Tours of Canada, the US, thirteen European countries, Japan and Australia followed.
In 1992, he participated in a benefit show for Chernobyl's children on Moscow's Red Square.
In 1994, he performed at the Pavarotti and Friends event in Modena, where he played duets with Luciano Pavarotti and rock balladeer Bryan Adams.
Among Vollenweider's most recent projections include a collaboration with German film composer Hans Zimmer in Los Angeles for the movie Tears of the Sun, starring Bruce Willis and Monica Bellucci.
Andreas Vollenweider will perform at the Petőfi Csarnok at 20:00 on September 26. He will be joined by Daniel Küfer on saxophone and keyboards, Walter Kaiser on drums, and Andi Pupato on percussion.
The artist's new double CD, Andreas Vollenweider & Friends 25 Years Live 1982-2007, will be available in Hungarian record shops from September."
