"Hit Where You Can Reach!", Palace Of Arts, 12 April |
"Don’t worry; we’re not inviting the youngsters for a punch up! The members of the Talamba Percussion Ensemble play on percussion instruments, in fact, all manner of them. Each musician is regularly surrounded by ten (and sometimes more) instruments and hits them with a stick held in their hands, of course, hitting “where they can reach”.Each musician is regularly surrounded by ten (and sometimes more) instruments and hits them with a stick held in their hands, of course, hitting “where they can reach”.
The percussion instruments represent the largest family of instruments; it is very hard to put a figure on how many individual types there are. We are familiar with many types of drums: the side drum which is sometimes called a rattle drum, the bass drum and of course, the timpani which is found in symphony orchestras. Less often, we meet others such as tom-toms, bongos, congas, and who knows what else. There are also other well-known metal (triangle, cymbals) and melodic percussion instruments (xylophone, chimes, vibraphone) but there are many others that we have probably never heard of.
Today is our opportunity to meet these instruments in a pleasant, good natured, playful performance. After the Talamba’s programmes, the audience usually doesn’t want to go home and this is very likely to be the case again.
After the performances, there will be educative museum activities in the Ludwig Museum. Ticketprices: 600.- HUF"
