"Hungarian bus maker Ikarus is planning to return to Peru by setting up an assembly plant, Peruvian newspaper Gestion has reported on Tuesday.According to the paper, Ikraus would construct a USD 20 million plant in Lima to produce 350 passenger buses running on biofuel every year. It also said senior officials of the company were expected to visit Peru this month.
In order to test local demand, Ikarus will first deliver ten buses to Peru in February 2008, but it also has ambitions of selling its models in Argentina, Venezuela and Bolivia. The Lima plant is scheduled to begin production in 2010.
Previously there were news about Ikarus starting production in China, but those have not been confirmed by today. The current plans should be taken seriously only when the Lima facility is up and running."
