"Arena Plaza Mall, the latest second-generation shopping centre in Hungary being developed by Plaza Centers will open on October 30th, 2007. Arena Plaza represents the latest breed of mall, occupying an area of more than 180,000 sqm.The shopping plaza is being built in central Budapest, on the site of the former horse racing track on Kerepesi út. The new-generation mall will house almost 200 retail units on two levels with a gross area of 65,000 sqm. Another floor will be given over to a 22-screen Cinema City multiplex movie theatre incorporating Hungary's first IMAX cinema, which offers a three-dimensional viewing experience.
A substantial proportion of the units in the Arena Plaza have already been let to major international brands, such as Zara, H&M, C&A, Tommy Hilfiger and Lacoste. Global real estate consultants Cushman & Wakefield is letting agent for Arena Plaza Mall.
"The Arena Plaza has aroused a great deal of interest among international retail chains. The first Hungarian outlet of German department-store chain Peek & Cloppenburg, which distributes, among others, the Boss, Polo Ralph Lauren and Paul & Shark brands, will open in Arena Plaza, with an area of over 4,600 sqm" says Viktória Szabó, Head of Retail at Cushman & Wakefield.
The range of shopping and leisure opportunities at the Arena Plaza will be further enhanced by a 10,000 sqm Tesco hypermarket, as well as a selection of restaurants and cafés, and a wide range of other services. A two-level underground customer car park will provide space for more than 2,800 cars. The spacious interior and oval design motifs of this "shopper friendly" mall invoke the atmosphere of the former horse track. Visitors will also be able to relax in the landscaped area linking the building of the Arena Plaza to Kerepesi út.
