Latin Festival, Palace Of Arts, 5 - 7 October

Latin Festival, Palace Of Arts, 5 - 7 October
"Those who have and those who have not visited a Spanish speech area should all come to the Latin Festival in the Palace of Arts at the beginning of October.

For three days, we will conjure this enormous region here with all its colours, moods, heartbeats and temperaments. No matter how rain might fall and wind might blow in Budapest during this time, sun will shine and spread its hot rays in the Festival Theatre and the Bartók Béla National Concert Hall.

Of course, all this is not enough for the Latin festival to introduce this varied culture from top to bottom, but it might relight the dormant fire of dance in every guest, perhaps for a passionate tango, or salsa, maybe a cha-cha-cha and a rumba afterwards.

The Quartet Escualo will open the event in the Festival Theatre on 5 October. The repertory of the ensemble (founded by young people in 2002) primarily include works by Astor Piazzolla in their own orchestration. The night will not pass without a special guest, Cristóbal Repetto, born in 1979 in Argentina, blasted into the tango-universe of the turn of the millennium lie a shooting star. In 2004, his album trademarked by his name also broke to the top. Those who like tango must most certainly attend this concert.

On 6 October, Saturday evening, the Hungarian band Latin Combo performs. The band has been playing Latin music for over a quarter of a decade. They had been touring with masters such as Carlos Santana, Al di Meola or Gipsy Kings even before Latin American music became fashionable again at the beginning of the 1990ies. Meanwhile, they have published more than two dozens albums. We will have a foreign guest at this evening, too, in the person of the glamorous Tania Nerfin, who will enchant the audience of the Festival Theatre with yoruba rhythms, Cuban son, cha-cha-cha, bolero and rumba.

On the closing evening, 7 October, those will fill the auditorium of the Bartók Béla National Concert Hall who are curious about Eddie Palmieri. The outstanding personality of Latin jazz is of Puerto Rican roots, but was born in New York. He received his first Grammy Award in 1975, which has been followed by further eight since then. This will be salsa at its best!"
