"Behind the glamour and glitz of a five-star establishment lies the gray reality of the Engineering Department: the nitty-gritty of the house. Grey and gritty this reality may well be but engineering and facilities maintenance comprise complex tasks, which, at the Kempinski Corvinus Budapest, are carried out by no less than 19 persons.The focus of the department is the smooth operation, continual maintenance and refurbishment of the Kempinski Corvinus building and its facilities. The work concerns two aspects of the hotel’s life: what the guests see, i.e. the rooms, the common areas, the restaurants and kitchens, and what remains hidden from the guests, i.e. the operational facilities.
The department is mostly busy with everyday routine problems such as heating or lack thereof, leakage or blockage, lighting or dark, fixtures stuck or come undone, and a whole slew of issues that call for immediate attention and fixing. Often enough, the glitches may require a great deal of creativity and improvisation too, not to mention versatility of skills and good old tact when dealing with an upset guest."
