Malév Gets New Chief Executive Officer |
 "Péter Leonov, vice-chairman of the Board of Directors of Malév, has taken over management of our airline as CEO from today. Péter Leonov has close links with the owners, he knows every member of the current management, and he enjoys a considerable degree of support.In his person the owners recognize the decisiveness and drive for integration which is capable of mobilizing the entire company and speeding up the transformation process.
As reported in an earlier press release, Lloyd Paxton’s unexpected departure as CEO of Malév was for personal reasons. The 64-year-old British professional with wide experience in international aviation had just started energetically to reshape the airline and stabilize the company’s financial situation. He surrounded himself with a strong team of international consultants, and with their support and the efforts of 70 Malév employees he launched the so-called reMAke programme aimed at boosting revenues and cutting costs.
The new CEO of the airline has committed himself to continuing the reMAke programme.
Péter Leonov has nearly ten years of experience in senior management with international corporations. In the course of his career he has achieved considerable success in the introduction and continuation of various projects on new markets. The expert, internationally recognized in the field of engineering sciences, has eight published scientific works to his name.
He was awarded a diploma in electrical engineering in Moscow in 1991, and a diploma in mechanical engineering in Budapest in 1993. He received a PhD. from the Budapest Technical University in 1996. Between 1994-1996 he represented Russian companies in Hungary and Europe, and he carried out an in-depth analysis of Hungarian-Russian economic relations. Until 2004, as managing director of Hungarian-Russian joint venture MEKOR Kft., he oversaw the implementation of international commercial and business projects. His organization of international business forums played a major role in the development of Hungarian-Russian economic relations. He has been a member of the board of AirBridge Hungary Assets Management Zrt. since 2005. Following the privatization of Malév he was appointed vice-chairman of the board of directors of the airline.
His native language is Russian and he speaks English and Hungarian to negotiating level.
Péter Leonov has lived in Hungary for 16 years and he expects to assume Hungarian citizenship within a year."
