"Aircraft of the national flag carrier are flying with increased frequencies on several routes under the winter timetable starting on 28 October. The number of flights is upped on the Malév Bangkok, Madrid and Venice services.Malév's winter timetable coming into effect from 28 October is adjusted to the travel demands of the winter season and increased traffic on certain routes. For instance, the direct Malév Bangkok flight to the tropical Far East operates with increased frequency, three times a week, and then from 8 January four times a week. Reservations data from early October confirm the extraordinary popularity of the Bangkok connection among Hungarian and foreign travellers: they reveal that the months of December, January and February are already 70-80% booked.
The airline is upping the number of its Madrid flights, too, with four new connections each week. Under the winter timetable, the daily evening departure from Budapest is ideal both for Eastern European transit travellers and business customers returning to Spain, added to which it guarantees an excellent connection to Iberia's Central and South American (Mexico, Argentina, Brazil) routes through the Spanish airline's Madrid hub. Besides this evening departure Malév is retaining its popular daytime service, too, flying four times a week.
The Malév Venice service is also strengthening its position in the cold winter season: compared to last year's winter timetable the airline has five more flights a week, to give 12 direct connections between the two cities each week. The increased frequency is partly in response to 20% growth in traffic registered in the first nine months of the year, and partly because of recent restructuring on the market.
Typical European summer holiday destinations such as Malaga, Dubrovnik and Split are removed from the Malév winter route network, while as usual fewer aircraft fly the North American routes: to Toronto and New York.
From 28 October the airline flies to Ekaterinburg twice a week, although this is supplemented with an additional weekly service in busier periods. Under the new schedule Krakow is the only non-seasonal destination to be taken out of the Hungarian carrier's route timetable.
Malév operates an average weekly 465, daily 65 flights in the winter timetable period. During this period the national airline links the Hungarian capital with 51 cities in 35 countries, and when calculated with its code-share partners 71 cities in 39 countries. The single most frequently covered route, Amsterdam, is flown five times a day.
Malév also operates charter flights in the winter, according to demand from travel agencies. This year's winter charter destinations include Kilimanjaro, Mauritius, Zanzibar, Johannesburg, Mombassa, Dubai, Bangkok, Phuket, Sharm-el-sheik, Hurghada, Aqaba and Torino.
