"Benjamin Gates is a third generation treasure hunter. All his life he has been searching for a treasure no one believed existed. Gates’ life-long journey leads him to the last place anyone thought to look: a map hidden on the back of the Declaration of Independence. But what he thought was the final clue is only the beginning."Movie type: Action Adventure - "National Treasure" is sort of like the "Indiana Jones" movies but with less action. Like "Indiana Jones" it's suspenseful and fun with quite a bit of humor. The pace is quick and the story is engaging as all the clues to the treasure being figured out. And it's believable for the most part anyway. I did count five instances where what happened was extremely convenient to the storyline even though it was highly improbable.
Director: Jon Turteltaub
Starring: Nicolas Cage (Ben Gates), Diane Kruger (Abigail Chase), Jon Voight (Patrick Gates), Harvey Keitel (Sadusky)
Length: 1 hr. 40 min.
Reviews:
”Below Average ...National Treasure could be headed for box office gold. It's too bad it's missing the gems that make movies worthwhile: intelligence, character development, and a legitimate storyline. National Treasure deserves to be buried.” Berardinelli, Internet Critic
”Average 'National Treasure' is so silly that the Monty Python version could use the same screenplay, line for line.” Roger Ebert
”Below Average Giving it fair credit, Disney’s National Treasure is as slick as the P.T. Barnum who produced it—action-glitz king Jerry Bruckheimer—and it definitely has minor moments of Matterhorn-ride amusement for what’s otherwise an insultingly preposterous, culturally barren clump of exploitative, flag-sticker patriotism.” Premiere
”Average Never thought I'd say this about any Jerry Bruckheimer production, but this one probably could have used a couple more car chases to jolt things along. Though director Jon Turtletaub does an earnest, almost circumspect job at the helm, he and the rest of the production team seem so awestruck in the presence of so many landmarks and so much history that the movie slides off the tracks and sits still for too long.” Newsday
