"The sale of new cars dropped by 5.8% year on year in Hungary in 2007, the Association of Hungarian Vehicle Importers (MGE) announced on Tuesday.A total of 176,978 new vehicles, including passenger cars and SUVs, were sold in Hungary last year, 5.8% less than in 2006, the MGE said.
While the leading brand was Suzuki with 32,274 cars sold, in annual comparison this was 1.1% less than in 2006. The brand's market share was 18.2%, up from 17.4% in 2006.
Opel came in second with 20,149 cars sold, which corresponds to a 6.3% yr/yr decline. Opel's market share remained unchanged at 11.4%.
The bronze medal was won by Ford, with 18,334 cars sold, down 4% yr/yr. Its market share edged up to 10.4% from 10.2% in 2006.
The runner-ups were Volkswagen (15,010 cars, -3.5%, mkt share: 8.5% vs. 8.3%), Skoda (14,377 cars, -13.8%, mkt share: 8.1% vs. 8.9%) and Toyota (12,165 cars, -7.7%, mkt share: 6.9%)."
