"Finland's mobile handset maker Nokia is expanding the responsibilities of its Budapest office to include overseeing 11 national markets in Southn and Central Europe from January, the company has announced on Thursday.The office will be in charge of marketing, product launches, customer service and communication for the region, with a staff of 60, including 45 Hungarians, local newswire MTI cited Greig Williams, Nokia's director for the region, as telling a press conference in Budapest.
Nokia's plans for 2008 include the objective of maintaining its leading position on the global handset market, speeding up the expansion of its mobile internet and corporate solutions, and improving end-point-to-end-point services offered by its joint venture with Siemens, Williams added.
Nokia's plant in Komárom (northwest Hungary) has a payroll of about 5,500 people, and it was Hungary's third-largest revenue generator in 2006, with turnover of HUF 1,093 bn, according to a ranking compiled by business weekly HVG."
