"Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány stressed on MTV’s “Nap-kelte” talk show Wednesday morning that his cabinet “will not become a lame duck” although consultations with the opposition parties on bills could begin sooner than was originally planned. The Socialist Party has 190 MPs in the 386-seat Parliament and, despite the enduring absences of László Toller and Gyula Horn, Free Democrat abstentions would help the Socialists in the legislature. Magyar Hírlap observes that the possibility of minority governing has for the moment confirmed the positions of Prime Minister Gyurcsány and Free Democrat chairman János Kóka.
Government spokeswoman Bernadett Budai announced on Wednesday that the transfer and takeover of Free Democrat-run ministries will take place around April 20. Meanwhile government spokesman Dávid Daróczi said Gyurcsány has asked the Free Democrat ministers to avoid decisions that could have any long-term impact.
Budai said Gyurcsány had acknowledged the Free Democrat cabinet ministers’ resignation confirmations at the cabinet meeting."
