A Displaced View Of The NFL: Questions, Questions…
"Week four of the 2007 NFL season is a wrap, and while the proverbial men are beginning to separate themselves from the boys, the questions still remain stubbornly amix with fuzzy future answers. Help me out here…

What the hell is up with Philadelphia (part CXVII)? Two weeks ago, you could dis Andy Reid and the Eagles on any number of counts after lackluster play in opening games against Green Bay and Washington. Then the ridiculous 56-point display had this writer and others ready to apologize. Naturally, Philly chased the eight-touchdown fireworks show with an anemic 16-3 loss which had the Eagles giving up 12 sacks in a pitiful display of all facets of the game. Wait ‘til next week!

Are the Detroit Lions for real? Thirty-four points in the fourth quarter? Does anyone outside the Motor City believe yet?

Are the San Diego Chargers that bad? Really? Now this armchair QB has been ranting about Norv Turner (A quickie rant, if you will: The guy's career winning percentage is .411! That's 58-82-1! He's had three winning seasons, and one of those was an 8-7-1! He's been in the playoffs once! Sheesh, why does no one remember this stuff?) since the preseason but, whoa, is this dude lame. Charger fans were calling for “MAR-ty, MAR-ty”? Hilarious!

Wow, how good are the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots? Both teams continue to play nearly flawless, effortless ball in demolishing the competition repeatedly. Catching these teams this weekend was a real treat … anyone else looking ahead to these two meeting on 14 October? Sport 2, tell us that’s the game you’re showing.

Speaking (writing?) of watching the games, I’ve been asked how to see some. If you’re speaking about going out, there’s always Champs in Pest, sporting excellent teevees, decent menu, good drinks list and standard-level service. Write us here if you’ve got other recommendations, incidentally. We’re always up for another American football-friendly venue.

As for home access, Sport 2’s live broadcast of “Monday Night Football” is a must-tape if you can stand a bit of Tony Kornheiser’s sloppy sycophantic man-crush on the brilliant Ron Jaworski. (If you’re actually watching this, dude, you’re hardcore.) And there’s the Sunday 10:30pm broadcast.

But hey, the early game starts at 7pm local time, excellent for most on Sunday night and two games a week is hardly enough, right? Right. So here’s a secret: Check out TVUnetworks.com and/or MyP2P.eu. These ‘sites provide television-viewing software which gets American channels in addition to weird stuff – in the way that foreign TV is always weird – from China, Korea, India (hey, you can check out cricket pretty much 24/7, too) including NFL stuff. Since the feeds come from individuals supplying them, the supply isn’t 100 percent, but more is still better, eh?

Lessons learned: Most of the league continues to underestimate the Green Bay Packers’ ‘D’ to their continued detriment. Likewise, the Indianapolis Colts are not to be trifled with; witness their sheer physical overwhelming of the Denver Broncos last Sunday. I am the world’s worst fantasy football owner.

This week: Denver and Green Bay have the Chargers and Bears, respectively, over for dinner. On the menu is a pair of might-have-been Super Bowl contenders."
