"2008 is the Year of Renaissance in Hungary. In the historical background of the Year of Renaissance - 2008 is the 550th anniversary of Matthias Corvinus (one of the most important Hungarian kings) coming to the throne of Hungary. The anniversary is a good reason to show people what renaissance means today - much more than looking back at the upbeat Hungary of the 15th century with its fast progress on the field of arts, culture, society and economy.
The event series of the Year of the Renaissance will cover issues of culture, science, gastronomy and others.
Four big museums of Hungary already undertook an unusual co-operation: the Budapest History Museum, the Museum of Applied Arts, the Hungarian National Gallery and the National Széchenyi Library will organize exhibitions with a common topic under the title "4 times about Renaissance, but ”the Year of Renaissance - 2008" is not meant to be a capital-based event series: it will be present in Sárospatak as well as in Sopron and beyond the borders, in museums or even on market places.
Various museums and exhibition facilities along with different institutions, organizations and associations have already entered for participation in the season’s events Thus, diversity is guaranteed along with the fact that one may bump into the events of the "Year of Renaissance - 2008" throughout the country next year. We hope that those who come across the programmes of the season will not only obtain experiences but also valuable knowledge and a tinged outlook upon life."
