State Secretaries Suspected Of Corruption

State Secretaries Suspected Of Corruption
"State secretaries and deputy state secretaries received bribes totalling over Ft 100 million from major Hungarian entrepreneurs hoping to win tenders, the tabloid Blikk reported on Monday, citing documents in its possession.

Blikk wrote that a certain H.A. met businessmen in the MPs’ Office in 2005, drove a government-owned Audi-6 car, and held a parliamentary pass and a government adviser certificate. H.A. reportedly deceived businessmen with promises that he would organise meetings with politicians who could help them, and was paid millions of forints by senior company executives. H.A. in turn passed on millions of forints to ministers and state secretaries.

H.A. was quoted as saying a former state secretary had been willing to drive as far as Milan to collect Ft 6.2 million, while two companies even submitted development bids to the National Development Agency.

Government spokesman Dávid Daróczi responded that “all enquiries so far conducted go against the daily’s claims.” Police said Monday night that politicians were not involved in the alleged bribery. The National Security Office has also reportedly launched an inquiry, however."
