"Suzuki's local subsidiary is planning to step up production with its employee headcount growing from the current 5,000 to 6,000 by the end of next year, daily Világgazdaság reported. The reason for the upgrade is that Hungary's only Suzuki plant in Esztergom, north of Budapest, is scheduled to start test runs for two new models in December 2007, with mass scale production to launch in early 2008, according to the newspaper.
Developed in partnership with Opel, the Suzuki Splash and Opel Agila models will be both assembled in Esztergom. Approximately 40,000 new Splash and 80,000 Agila cars will leave the factory next year.
New investment at the Esztergom plant totaled HUF 45 billion in 2006, this year the company is planning to invest HUF 50 billion. As a result, the factory will step up production from 220,000 cars in 2007 to 300,000 next year. 2007 Suzuki sales in Hungary are estimated at 33,000, the same figure as last year."
