Tax On Poker Games Proposed

Tax On Poker Games Proposed
"Amendments filed to the 2008 tax bill in Parliament at the last minute on Wednesday would affect bank reserves and introduce a tax on poker and other card games.

MPs who suggested that banks’ provisions for losses not be taxed have withdrawn their proposal, so the final bill will introduce the controversial tax on January 1.

A special tax on card games will be introduced next year in effect to tax poker. The bill will order that organising companies collect 15% of all money at stake, giving back 85% to the players. The game organiser will pay 30% of its revenues as tax.

Similar card games such as bridge, tarot and Hungarian favourite “ulti” are exempt, as they are regulated by laws on sports."
