To The Memory Of Jackie Orszáczky, National Concert Hall, 4 April |
"Two months before the life’s work concert to be held on occasion of his sixtieth birthday, Miklós ‘Jackie’ Orszáczky died of lymphoma on February 3, 2008. Jackie, born on May 8,1948, became a cultic-legendary hero in the history of Hungarian rock as the bass guitarist-singer of the band Syrius, but his work has another major trait as well: he was the musician who never lived on memories. In Sydney, where he moved in1974, he, as a composer, arranger and band leader attained a rank similar to what he had in Hungary. In his first solo album released in 1975 (Beramiada), he played jazz fusion, while in the eighties it was along soul, funky and rhythm & blues where he found the tone that was to characterise him throughout his career, producing albums like Jump Back Jack in 1987, Family Lore in 1993 or Deep Down Out in 1997.
The album Deserted Downtown, released in 2001, was co-published with Tibor Tátrai – guitarist performing with Syrius also – while in the album released under the name of his partner, singer Tina Harrod, (Shacked Up In Paradise) Béla Szakcsi Lakatos played the piano in Jackie’s band.
In Australia, Jackie’s collected works are now to be published in a deluxe box. In Hungary, at the Palace of Arts, we shall take farewell from Jackie by music, the way he wanted. His Australian band and Hungarian guests will play their music to make the concert ‘almost’ like the concert Jackie had in mind: evoking all the decisive periods in his music. But devoting it to his memory now.
Tina Harrod – vocals, David Symes – bass guitar, Hamish Stewart – drums, Matthew McMahon – keyboard instruments, James Greening – trombone, Anthony Kable – trombone, Juanita Tippens – vocals Also featuring: Tibor Tátrai – guitar, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos – piano, Mihály Ráduly – flute, Mihály Borbély - saxophone, as well as Sturcz String Quartet Ticketprices: 2200.- 3100.- 4500.- 5600.- HUF Travel Checques, Sodexho Culture Vouchers and Palace Gift Vouchers are also accepted at the Palace of Arts Ticket Office when purchasing tickets for this concert."
