"One of the most significant natural assets of the Great Plain (Alföld) is the Central Tisza Landscape Protection Area (Közép-Tiszai Tájvédelmi Körzet). The largest portion of the 9,452 hectares lies around Szolnok.In addition to the wooded groves, the gentle beauty of the oxbow lakes makes the greatest impression on walkers here. To this day, one can use these to follow the shifting river bed of the River Tisza. They also provide the last visible remains of the vast marshland world and its characteristic wildlife from the time before the Tisza was regulated.
The fauna of the area is particularly rich and varied, especially in bird species.
Between Kisköre and Tiszaug, the landscape protection area encompasses the Tisza floodplain in two segments for a 136 kilometre stretch along the river. The northern section runs from the Kisköre railway bridge to the Szolnok railway bridge, the southern section from Tószeg to the Tiszaug bridge.
