Getting Around: Visit Parád in Heves county

Getting Around: Visit Parád in Heves county
"A famous holiday resort known across Europe for its spa, Parád is also the geographical centre of the Palots ethnic group. The settlement's earliest written record dates from 1549.

In 1763, mineral water with alum was discovered. The original spa was opened in 1778 where the first bathing house was erected in 1795. By the early-19th century, the village's baths had gained a reputation across Europe.

One of Parád's main sights is the Károlyi mansion which functions as a hotel these days. The so-called Adorned Stables (Cifra-istálló) with its wooden beams, red bricks and red marble coverings, imitates the style of similar Upper German stables. It is today a stud farm and a Carrige Museum.

The Mineral Water Collection is a local curiosity that displays a collection of over 350 bottles from 25 countries. One section is about Parád Water taken from a spring at nearby Parádsasvár. The areas of the Parádfürdő baths and of Parádóhuta are part of Parád.

How to get there:
By public transport, Volán buses serve the town from the Gyöngyös and Eger. By car, go to Gyöngyös and take Route 24 north."
