Hungary's Csardas Dance Added to UNESCO's 'Intangible World Heritage' List

The decision was made at the meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage under way in Asuncion, Paraguay.
The Szentendre Open-Air Museum, the Hungarian coordinator of the agreement on preserving intangible cultural heritage, said in a statement that the committee highlighted the dance's role in communities in its assessment.
The statement said Csardas was present in all Hungarian communities in various versions, and remained an important fixture of Hungarian celebrations.
It was being passed on by professional and amateur dancers, in schools and summer camps as well as modern media, the statement said.
