    Japanese Companies Key To Hungary Economic Growth, Says FM

    Japanese companies play a key role in Hungary’s economic growth, with 19 Japanese companies having invested 21 billion forints (EUR 58.5), creating over 13,000 jobs since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook, noting he had met Japanese Ambassador Masato Ohtaka for an introductory meeting.

    The foreign ministry and HIPA National Investment Agency have granted SYNLAB Hungary Kft 140 million forints (EUR 390,000) for developments worth 281 million forints related to coronavirus testing, and the facility will be on track to process 5,000 PCR tests per day by the first half of 2021, Péter Szijjártó, the foreign and trade minister, said.

    Hungary’s three-month rolling average jobless rate was 4.4% in Sept-Nov, rising 0.9 of a percentage point from twelve months earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said. In monthly comparison, unemployment edged up 0.1 of a percentage point.
