Budapest mayor István Tarlós has announced plans to renovate the city’s iconic Chain Bridge and remodel Blaha Lujza Square in central Budapest. Speaking at an AmCham event, Tarlós said the Buda Castle tunnel was also a contender for renovation and plans are to revamp the Cog-Wheel railway, extending it to Széll Kálmán Square in one direction and all the way to Normafa Hill in the other.

Annual May Museums’ Festival features 120 Hungarian museums which will bring along presentations about their museums to the courtyard of the National Hungarian Museum for two days. In France there are around 12,000 horse races a year, the UK averages around 10,000, and in Scandinavia 'harness racing' is huge. And here in Budapest? Not all expats know about the opportunity to enjoy a day or two at the races most weekends, as Kincsem Park hosts harness racing on the Saturday and flat racing on the Sunday.

The renovated Széll Kálmán tér, the former Moszkva tér, was formally reopened yesterday after 400 days of construction work, and three months after the initial deadline of February. The square, the busiest hub in Budapest, was completely rebuilt at a cost of Ft 5.5 billion of city, government and EU funds.

The renovation of Budapest’s metro 3 under a contract signed on Thursday is scheduled to receive 120 billion forints in European Union funding and 20 billion from the central budget, a government official said. The contract was signed by Budapest transport company BKV chairman-CEO Tibor Bolla and National Development Ministry deputy state secretary Flórián Szalóki.
