Fonó recently made it into 12th place among the world's top publishers of world music. So, maybe it's a bit too early qualify the recording market as DOA. There's a good chance that Hungarian folk music, dressed up just a bit differently, might become as hot on the world market as Africa or the Balkans were a few years ago.

Budapest is a great place to live if you love theatre. Most of the productions are in Hungarian, but fortunately there are also more and more shows in English. One great example is Budapest English Theatre‘s new comedy, called Pretext, written and directed by Virginia Proud.

On 20- 21 September the Andrássy Avenue, the city’s grandest boulevard, will become the Gallop Promenade, presenting over 1,000 years of Hungarian history. Tents representing towns and cities across the nation will show off local traditions – imagine blacksmiths pounding horseshoes, costumed women embroidering centuries-old flower motifs, weavers crafting baskets of straw or rugs of wool.
415 000 Szitizens At Sziget Festival In Budapest – Together!

Sziget Festival has attracted a record weekly crowd of 415 000 this year. Passes were sold out already before the start of the event and on Thursday there was full house with 85 000 fans on the island. The festival keeps on using the ‘Island of Freedom’ as its slogan and even more efforts were put into the improvement of the visual experience around the festival site.

Outkast, Manic Street Preachers and The 1975 were all new acts confirmed to appear in Hungary this summer, Sziget organizers revealed this week at a press event. They join acts announced earlier such as Queens of the Stone Age, The Prodigy, Macklemore, Imagine Dragons, Bastille, Skrillex, Placebo, Lily Allen and The Kooks. Tamás Cseh Archive Opens In Budapest

An archive commemorating late Hungarian pop singer Tamás Cseh was officially opened in Budapest on Wednesday by State Minister for Culture János Halász. Halász said at the opening that Cseh and his lyricist, Géza Bereményi, knew very well that some things one cannot talk about can only be expressed in songs.
