"Named after the Christian virgin, St. Lucy's day (Lucia or Luca’s day - luca napja) is one of the richest in customs and superstitions in Hungary. Before the Gregorian calendar reform, it was the shortest and darkest day of the year, and it marked the beginning of the winter solstice. It is for this reason that numerous traditions and fertility games are linked to this special day.

Yesterday the 'Magyar Nemzeti Bank' issued a particularly valuable gold collectors coin named The Golden Florin of Laduslaus V (László aranyforintja V.) in single and in piedfort version, which is four times the weight of a normal coin. These coins represent the eighth addition in the Hungarian medieval gold florin series.
