The Awakening Of The USA: 'The Early 60's', House Of Music Budapest, 1 February
By the end of the fifties, rock and roll seemed to have become established, and most of the idols of the new generation dropped out of the limelight.

October 1957, Little Richard converted to evangelical Christianity, two months later Jerry Lee Lewis' (third) marriage to his 13-year-old niece caused a scandal, in 1958 Elvis enlisted, in February 1959 Buddy Holly died and a few months later Chuck Berry was arrested.

And while beat was fuelled in Liverpool and London, urban folk music (Bob Dylan, Joan Baez) came as a breath of fresh air in New York, as did the surfing sound (Beach Boys) in California. Meanwhile a new black pop empire (Tamla/Motown) was born in Detroit.
