Hungary’s Foreign Policy “Christian”
Hungary bears responsibility in giving joint responses to global challenges with other countries and its government pursues a Christian foreign policy, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó told an international conference on the history of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Hungary, marking the 25th anniversary of reestablishing diplomatic relations.

Assuming responsibility for Christian communities around the world is a key element of Hungary’s foreign policy, he insisted.

Hungary is making efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East and also bears responsibility for ethnic Hungarian communities abroad, he added.

In keeping with the country’s foreign policy based on Christian principles, Hungary will never abandon any of its citizens and will try to help them wherever they get in trouble, he said.

Zsolt Semjén, the deputy prime minister, said that Christianity was a key value for the Hungarian nation, and praised the Catholic Church’s increasing role in education, health and welfare service.

Human Resources Minister Zoltán Balog spoke highly of the thousand years of ties between Hungary and the Holy See, and said that those ties have always been “transparent and authentic”.
