In a recently completed, fast-track audit of the coronavirus rapid test market, the authority found that these products were excessively expensive compared to other countries.
The GVH recommended that the government allow more sales points in order to boost price competition, increase the geographical coverage and ease availability for consumers.
The GVH also recommended that distributors revise their supply chains, on the basis that more direct wholesale purchases would reduce consumer prices.
The authority also found that in several cases distributors had not provided sufficient information to consumers about the rapid tests. The GVH ordered them to change this practice by February 14.
