Budapest Fish Festival, Vajdahunyad Castle, 19 - 22 February
- 12 Feb 2015 11:50 AM
Those who love fish dishes might be glad to hear that the Hortobágyi Fish Farm’s crew and the capitals of fish soups - Szeged and Baja - are coming to the festival again. Among the “big fishes” of the festival we can find local restaurants and the best of the country’s street food restaurants.
The III. Budapest Fish Festival’s highlighted region is the Balaton and the festival’s fish is the zander this year. The Hungarian Cuisine meets the foreign trends on this traditional event, so besides the delicacies from Balaton we can taste Asian recipes, French fish soup, Russian caviar, and special Bulgarian and Portuguese fish products.
After the great success of last year’s program the visitors can take part in a unique gastronomy experience once again, as fish soup will be made in a 5000 litre pot and a gigantic catfish will be grilled thanks to the courtesy of the fishermen of Tiszalök.
“It is not a secret that when we planned the event three years ago our main purpose was to encourage the people’s fish consumption, to point out its beneficial effects on our heath and strengthen its role in the Hungarian gastronomy.”- said István Necz head organizer of the Budapest Fish Festival.
To follow the traditions this year’s festival will start with the Gluttonous Thursday where the hosts offer everything on half prize and on Saturday we can take part in a cooking competition. On 2015’s festival children can participate in the fun, too. The organizers made a creative competition for elementary and secondary school pupils, where the grand prize is an excursion for the whole class to the Lake Balaton.
