Just one day after German property developer ECE announced plans to build a EUR 200 million shopping center in the Óbuda district in Budapest, Kristóf Szatmáry, the government commissioner for trade policy, says the development will not happen in its present form since it lacks the necessary construction permit.

Members of Hungary’s Property Developers Roundtable Association (IFK) are expected to construct 71,000sqm of building space with a value of 152 million euros this year, the professional group told MTI. The scale of the projects is up 41% from last year. The value has climbed 29%. But IFK said it would still take 2-3 years for the pace of business to really pick up.
