In efforts to alleviate labour shortages, the government plans to boost regional mobility and training, an economy ministry official said at a forum organised by the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry and National Trade Association. Péter Cseresnyés, state secretary for labour and training, said that Hungary’s labour market was characterised by both unemployment and a labour shortage.

Hungary’s rolling average three-month jobless rate reached 4.9% in July- September, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported. The rate, which covers unemployment among 15 to 74-yearolds, was level with that in June-August but fell from 6.4% in the same period a year earlier.

Fully 57 percent of Hungarian employers have trouble filling positions, a survey conducted by staffing company ManpowerGroup released on Tuesday shows. Altogether 32 percent of the survey’s respondents said they were struggling with a lack of applicants for the vacant positions while 31 percent complained of a shortage of skilled labour.
