The number of people and days spent on sick leave both significantly dropped between 2005 and 2013 according to a report by the Central Statistical Office (KSH). The average number of paid time of f for an illness fell from 30 in 2005 to 24 in 2013, KSH said.

State hospitals in Hungary will not be allowed to offer private services, the state secretary for health care said on Wednesday. Gábor Zombor told a conference that the government had decided that state and private services must be separated in health care and the national health fund will not support private services.

Among the 34 countries of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, Hungary stood in 26th place on the health spending chart. Spending on medicines generally declined, the OECD report said.
