Fresh Air At Budapest Ferihegy Airport
"Within a week, all functions will be operational on the new meteorological tower and air pollution measuring station erected last week by the Environment team next to the fire brigade headquarters. The 10-meter tall tower will not only measure wind speed and direction, but also air temperature, moisture, air pressure, precipitation and global radiation (sunlight).

The tower will also send data into the system of the National Meteorological Service. Thus, experts will be able to study the weather at Ferihegy more closely.

The air pollution measuring station is currently in trial operation, measuring the carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide content of air. The first research results from 2006 have already shown that air quality at the airport is similar to that of the cleanest districts in Budapest. The cleanliness of the air is also shown by the fact that the air filter, normally replaced every two weeks, only has to be changed monthly, because there is so little pollution on it.

Budapest Airport joined the Ányos Jedlik research project in October 2005, as part of which colleagues from the Environmental Directorate assessed air quality at Ferihegy Airport. As part of the project, in 2007 a monitoring station was established on the terrace of Terminal 2, which also measures air pollution, or, rather, air quality. This station was expanded in 2008. At that time the new station had already been planned, and now the project has become reality."
