First Flood, Then Mosquitoes In Budapest
I remember back in 2010. A mosquito annoyed me and trying to hit it I almost broke my finger as I hit the wall too hard. My finger only hurt for some days, but the memory of the mosquitoes back in 2010 is still alive in my memory. A good thing with history is that we can learn from it. That is why I immediately understood that one of the consequences of a flood, followed by high temperatures are tons of mosquitoes.

To me it only remained a theory, but in the last few days I have unfortunately noticed that it seems to be true, again. So, just like in 2010 I have experienced quite some mosquitoes in our flat and the annoying “zzzzzzzz” noice next to my ear when I try to sleep in the evening.

Yesterday I went to the playground with my older son, and just as I was about to place him in the swing we were attacked by something like 10-15 mosquitoes. I carried him with me, hit mosquitoes trying to suck both his and mine blood, and got as far away from that swing as possible. Later in the afternoon I heard about other parents (and children) who suffered from the mosquitoes at the playground as well.

What does this mean?

If you come to Budapest in the near future you should not be surprised if you are attacked by a bunch of mosquitoes.

Normally the Vaci utca and Budapest in general is mosquito free, but in the aftermath of larger floods the city is often attacked by swarms of mosquitoes.

Stay prepared, but we hope that they will manage to exterminate the mosquitoes within shortly and that we will all be able to enjoy a mosquito free summer in Budapest!
