Hungary Wants To Remain GMO – Free
Hungary intends to preserve its ban on cultivation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in the country, Rural Development Ministry Deputy State Secretary Katalin Tóth confirmed on Wednesday.

Earlier, Tóth said that Hungary would retain its prohibition on GMOs after the Council of the European Union announced it would consider a proposal to permit the production of Pioneer 1507 GMO maize in member states.

The European Union currently permits the cultivation of a single GMO - Monsanto MON 810 maize - in EU member states. This type of GMO maize is cultivated in Spain, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania. Hungary, Germany, Austria, Italy, Poland, Bulgaria, Greece and Luxembourg currently prohibit the cultivation of GMOs.
